What's wheel alignment?

Wheel alignment (or monitoring ) is an important part of automobile maintenance. It describes the angle and direction where your tyres are put. At Sixfields Tyres & Autocentres, we use specialist equipment to correctly adjust the front wheels of your car. Your wheels will need to be aligned to the advocated place as outlined in your car’s manufacturer specification.

Hitting kerbs or driving at speed through a pothole could lead to wheel misalignment. Poorly aligned tyres can influence road holding and reduce the life of your tyres, so it is really important to look at your wheels regularly.

Do I need wheel alignment?
Have you ever noticed difficulties with steering, or your vehicle pulling to one side? Are your wearing on one side over the other? These symptoms are signs of wheel misalignment.

Watch out for:
- Wear that is uneven or abnormal
- Drag or pulling to one side
- Steering wheel vibration
- Scrubbing or squealing sounds

A tyre that is’toed in’ will show wear on the outer shoulder of the tyre, though a tyre that’s’toed out’ will show wear on the shoulder. Various kinds of vehicles require different toe configurations to permit for the manner wheels pull towards each other or apart.

Tyre wear isn’t the only area of the car that may suffer if your wheels are incorrectly aligned. Braking distance, driving quality and fuel consumption are all changed.
